UFO was broacast for the first time in Italy by the Swiss television "TSI" (in Italian).
UFO, whose Swiss title was "MINACCIA DALLO SPAZIO" (The Space Menace), was broadcast on Thursday 17 September 1971 at 9 PM. First episode was "L'uomo che venne dallo spazio" (Identified) . UFO's first appearance on the Italian broadcasting company RAI TV was at 4.45 PM on Sunday 3 October 1971 in a famous kids-oriented program called "La TV dei Ragazzi". During this first season 8 episodes were broadcast. Other 8 episode were broadcast during a second season in 1973, and again in 1974. Due to some adult situations contained, other 10 episodes were never acquired, nor broadcast, by RAI. Even the broadcast episodes were censored in order to show them in the afternoon time; some examples are: the first frames of the opening sequence, showing the alien and the eye shells removal or the Gay Ellis's suit change. Thanks to the evening airing time, the Swiss television broadcast, among the 13 acquired, also 5 "adult" episodes: "A Question of Priorities", "The Square Triangle", "Fligh Path", "The Psychobombs" and "The Long Sleep". For many reasons, a kid TV program could never show these episodes... TV broadcasting rigths cost about 100.000 Italian lira each episode. |
